Poster Draft

Here I have created one of my initial poster drafts. I wanted the main image to be the background of the poster so this would be the main focus. I think this makes the poster look more conventional and less busy. I have tried to keep this poster as simple as possible. I have used this main image as I think it is one of my best ones, the facial expressions used are relevant and I think the image really shows the kind of film genre I am trying to convey. I have kept to my colour scheme so the products compliment each other and can be recognised together. I have used the title straight through the middle of the main image to represent that, 'three is a crowd'. As this is only my first draft I will get feedback from fellow media students and keep improving on my poster.

Poster Continued..

These last few lessons I have working on one of my final products, my magazine poster. I have used my favourite layout that I think is appropriate and would work best for my products. I have started to add my images and experimenting with my colour scheme. When I have finished my first draft magazine poster I will get feedback from my fellow media students and keep editing my poster until I think it is complete. I will then upload it onto my blogger.

Pictures for products

Now I have created my draft layout for my film magazine. I will now start uploading images that I have took for my products. I will start off by editing my images so that they look conventional and professional.

Inspired Poster

I am very inspired by the camera shot in used within this poster. The image really represents how the girls feel towards eachother and there facial expressions really show this. I like how the poster it quite simple but still looks eye-catching and effective. I also like the way the actresses names have been presented with two different fonts. On the other hand, I do not like the font and colour used on the title, 'WARS'. I think this is to bold and doesnt really compliment the posters colour scheme. Overall, I think the poster works well as it is very conventional and has everything needed for a successful poster.

Poster

This lesson I have been working on fireworks, experimenting with my poster layout and drafting out where I want to place various images and the writing. I want the main feature on the poster to be the image of the three main characters. My initial idea is to use this image as the background so it really stands out what the film is about. I also want to film title, 'Three's A Crowd' to really stand out. Next lesson I will upload my draft copies of the poster layout.

Analysing Film Posters

I have researched different advertising film posters that are a similar genre to my own. I will now go on to analysing the three posters taking inspiration from the posters and talking about what I think works and what I think doesn't. I can then take ideas from these posters and experiment on my own film poster.

1. This is the first poster I was inspired by which is advertising the new release of. 'Bridesmaids'. I decided to research this poster myself as I knew it was a similar genre to my own. My favourite feature of this poster is the layout as I think it is very different to other film posters and this makes it really stand out and look quite unconventional. I also like the colour scheme used and how they have used the colour of the dresses to match the writing. On the other hand, I don't think the brick background really goes well with the film genre. Although, it is conventional I don't think it is a very eye-catching background.

2. The second poster I have decided to analyse is advertising, 'Bride Wars'. Yet again the colour schemes within these film genres are mostly pink and white which is very conventional and predictable. I do like the layout of this poster and the fact it is very simple but will still catch its target audiences eye. Although, I think this poster works quite plain I think there should maybe be a slogan on the poster or a little more information to advertise the film.

3. I have been inspired by this, 'Valentines Day' advertising poster in the way it has been layed out. I like the idea of the love heart used as this keeps all the images in proportion so the page doesn't look to busy. I also think the love heart is different and quite unconventional. I like how because the page has been layed out in a simple and neat way that there can be quite a lot of writing on the page. Also, I like how the colour scheme is blue and pink to show the charaters are unisex and is aimed at a wider audience. Lastly, I do think that the black background is a little to much of a block colour and there should of maybe been something used to split this up.

Products

These last few lessons I have been thinking about my film magazine cover and film poster. After discovering my colour scheme and font theme I have a clearer idea of what I want my products to look like. When creating my film magazine front cover I also have to come up with a title for the make of the magazine. I have already researched magazines for films so I already have an idea of what I want mine to be, I do want to keep it simple. I think this will make the magazine easier to remember. I am now going to start drafting my two products, experimenting with the layouts and seeing what works and what doesn't.

Selected Images

1.
These are the two images I have chosen to use on my products. The image I have used above are the raw images and will be edited. I have decided on these two images due to the facial expressions that are used. Image number one shows a really mad expression. whereas, image number two shows a more sadder expression I have chosen to use these expressions as this is how the actresses come across through the film script. I also chose to position the girls in a certain way so when I uploaded them onto my products they would be placed to face one another.
                                          2.
I will also upload my other images onto my blogger on a slideshow.

Images

This lesson I have been taking images of my casts to use on my products. I already know what I want my images to look like and the camera shots I want to use. The shots I will be using for my products will be very conventional and hopefully represent how the actresses are feeling through there facial expressions. I also want to bring comedy through my images.
Next lesson I will start drafting my first copy of my film. My first draft will not be in the set location but will consist of the chosen clothing and the correct script. Also, I will be experimenting with different camera angles.

Font Stlye

I have been researching different fonts that will suit my film genre. I want quite a feminine font to represent the film but I also want the font to look quite quirky. I will use my chosen font on my three products, film trailer, DVD magazine front cover and my DVD case cover. I will use the website, 'www.dafont.com'. This website has a range of different fonts that can be downloaded.
These are a few of my favourite fonts, I will ask my fellow media students to chose there favourite font and see which one gets the most votes.

Font Number 1- 'Simply Gorgeous'

This is the first font that caught my eye, I think this font is appropriate for my three products as it is really girly which goes with the theme, 'chick flick'. The font also looks fun and quite quirky. Although I think this font would work I find that the writing may be quite hard to read, this could be a problem as I want people to remember the name of my film and if the audience cannot read the name the film could be easily forgotten.

Font Number 2- 'Riesling'
This font is called 'Riesling', I think this font looks professional but is still quite unique. The font is quite plain so it is easy to read and will appeal to my target audience. As the font, 'Riesling' is quite petites I will be able to make the font size bigger so the title will stand out more. I think that the 'S' used on the font works well as it look as if I am emphasing the fact that three 'IS' a crowd.

Font Number 3- Chocolate Box
My third chosen font is called, 'Chocolate box', I was attracted to the font as it is big and bold, so it really stands out. I think the font would really stand out on my three products but I'm not sure if this font will appeal to my target audience or the genre of my film. I think this font represents a more powerful film such as a horror or action film.

Font Number 4- 'Before the rain'
'Before the rain' is the next font I thought would work well for my products. Initially, I thought this font looked really feminine and would really compliments my film genre, 'chick flick'. Although, I do think the font would work within my theme as it is quite quirky, I think the font is quite conventional and would have been used many times before. I would also worry incase the font wouldnt be eaily read.

Font Number 5-'English'
This font is the last I have been inspired by. I think the font will really compliments my three products, DVD case, magazine cover and magazine front cover, It fits well within my, 'chick flick' genre and I think the font overall does have a feminime feel to it. I think 'English' font is quirky and different but will still be read easily. I think it will attract my target audience of females as it is a girly font.

Survey-
Font number-
1- ///
2- //
3- /
4- //
5- ////

I asked 12 students in my media class which font they preffered and if they thought the font was appropriate for my film genre and target audience. The font with the most students votes was font number five, 'English'. This was one of my favourite chosen fonts so I will be using it for my three products.

Fonts

This lesson I have been on, 'www.dafont.com' downloading different style fonts that will be appropriate for my three products. I will upload my favourite five fonts and do a survey to see which font people will prefer.

Colour Scheme

Now I have chosen my font I am now going to search for my chosen colour scheme. I think this is a very important feature for my three products as the colour scheme has to attract the target audience and it is the first thing that catches the audiences eye. With the film genre being a 'chick flick' the conventional colour scheme would likely to be pink, although a pink colour scheme would work I think this is to predictable. I also think a purple colour scheme would work. I am not completely sure so I will use, http://colorschemedesigner.com/ and do a survey in my class to help me choose a colour scheme for my three products.

Pink- As before I said that a pink colour scheme would work well, but could be quite predicatable. When thinking of a 'chick flick' a very bright pink comes to mind, I think that this could is very conventianal. Although, intially I didnt want a pink colour scheme as I wanted something a little more unconventional I think these different shades of pink look quite elegant and would work nice on my three products.

Purple- I think a purple colour scheme would target a more unisex audience. This could then lead to a wider audience viewing my film trailer. Although, I like the colour purple I think it could be a little to dull for my products and I want the three products to really stand out and catch the audiences eye.

Fuchsia- Lastly, I decided to look at a fuchsia colour scheme. I do like these colours as there are shades of dark and light which I think would be a good balance for my products. This colour scheme would attract my target audience but maybe to conventional for my products as the colours are very predictable.

Survey:
I am now going to do a survey and ask a number of people to chose one of the colour schemes to use on my products, I will tell them what products it will be used for and the genre of my film trailer.

Pink- //////
Purple- //
Fuchia- /////

The pink colour scheme recieved the most votes. Although initally I thought this colour would be to predictable I think the different shades of pink look really good together. The colour will also attract my target audience and suit the film genre very well.

First Script

My first script is now up! my next step is to start filming the trailer and see what improvement or changes I need to make. As my script is quite short and I need the trailer to last for up to 3 minutes, I want to use a lot of cuts so the trailer looks more effective. I also want to add captions in the trailer and maybe use some quotes that will be recognisable so that the audience may remember the trailer. The title of the trailer is, 'Three's A Crowd', I want this title shown at the end of the trailer so it will be the last thing that the audience will see and they may remember this. I also want to use the title at the end of the trailer as it kind of sums up the whole of the film.

Drafting the Script

I am now going to start drafting the first script for my film trailer. This is my first attempt at the script so it will probably be changed a few times before I get the final outcome. The script will be rehearsed by the actresses and then I will start filming the trailer and changing parts I dont think have worked etc.

Jo- The Bride
Lucy- Bridesmaid
Katy - Bridesmaid

Scene 1
Jo- 'I want you two to be my bridesmaids!'
Lucy- 'Really? ermm yesss'
Katy- 'Oh my god. Obviously I will'
Jo- 'Now, I know you two dont know each other very w                 ell but hopefully you'll both get along just fine and we will have soo much fun!'
Lucy-'Yes, everything will be just perfect for your big day!'

Scene 2
Jo- 'So I want you two to decide what colour dresses you want, surprise me!'
Katy-'Oh Wow, Im thinking Pink!?'
Lucy-'Oh.. I was thinking Red? A little more elegant?'
Katy-'Oh right, well we have to ask Joe, see what she thinks?'
Lucy-'Yeah, she will probably like Red though, im sure its her

Scene 3- The day of the Wedding
Lucy-'Nooo, this ones mine! What the hell do you think you are doing!?'
Katy-'What!? You know that this one is mine, your going to rip it!!'
Lucy & Katy-'OH MY GOD'
Lucy- 'She is gonna kill us..'
Katy- 'What were you thinking!? You have just ripped my dress!!'

Scene 4
Katy-'We can fix it, righttt?'
Lucy- 'Not with glue we cant! what are you doing, Joes going to be here soon!?
Katy- 'Well what the hell are we gonna do? Your going to have to tell Jo'
Lucy- 'IM not telling her. It was your fault..'
Katy-'Fine. Were both going to have to do it then.'

Scene 5
Katy-'Yeh! you did say suprise us!'
Jo-'Nope, I cant wait!! Im coming in!'
Katy & Lucy- 'Noooooo'

Scene 6
Jo-'What's up?'
Lucy-'Just give us a few minutes Joe!'
Joe walks into the room
Jo- 'What is up? why are you both so shifty?
Katy-'Nothing were just nervous!'
Joe notices the dress
'Joe-'What have you done!!!'

Scene 7
Lucy-'It was her fault!'
Jo-'This is meant to be my wedding day!'
Katy-'We are so so sorry...'

Now I have completed my first draft script for the film trailer I will start filming and seeing what lines work and what may need changing. Hopefully, the script I have started to write brings comedy and fun to the trailer and will entice people to watch it! I have left my draft script on a cliff hanger, hopefully this will work! if not I will carry on the script. I also need to make sure the trailer lasts around 3 minutes.

Script writing & inspiration

This lesson I have been watching more film trailers to inspire me. When writing my script I started to struggle on how I wanted my trailer to end. I want there to be a little bit of a cliff hanger to entice the audience. Using a cliff hanger I will have to have a really good storyline and make sure the trailer is attracting the right audience so people will want to watch more of the film.

Continued..

Again this lesson I have been working on my script, my first draft should be complete soon. After I have finished my first draft I can carry on working on my storyboard completing the different scenes within my film trailer.

Start of the Script

This lesson I have been drafting my first script for the actresses. I have tried to set the script out as clear as possible so it will be easier to learn. When the first draft is complete I will upload it on my blog and keep editing the script until it is complete.

Drafting the Scenes

This lesson I have been watching more film trailers to give me inspiration for my trailer and help me to order the different scenes for my trailer. I am going to try and fit twelve different scenes on my storyboard, as I want my trailer to last around two minutes and I want each of my scenes to be quite short so they dont get boring.

Also this lesson I have been making notes about the scenes and spoke about what I want them to consist of and also what props I need to use. When I have finished drafting and planning I will scan in all the notes I have made and upload them to my blog.

Storyboard

This lesson I have been working on my storyboard. This is to show the different scenes within my film trailer. I have used speech bubbles to give a better idea of whats happening in the scenes and I have also used draft stick men to show some facial expressions and body language. The storyboard will hopefully help me when filming my trailer as I will use it to follow through the scenes. When my storyboard is complete I will upload it onto my blog.

Props

I am now going to talk about the props that will be used within the film trailer.
As my cast's are females the majority of the props used will consist of girls accesiories such as:
shoes, bags, dresses and jewellery ect. This will attract my target audience and also relate to the film as it being a 'chick flick'.
Within my trailer I want to use certain cuts and close-up shots on accesiories to make the trailer look really girly. I think this is quite unconventional as I have not seen this done on any trailers I have researched.
For now I am not to sure what other props I will need to use so when I am drafting my first trailer I will make another post to show what props I have used.

Film Magazine Cover Inspiration

I have chosen to analyse this magazine film cover which is advertising, 'The Golden Compass'. There are aspects on this cover that I am thinking of using for my own.
The first feature I was inpired by was the camera angle which is an over the shoulder shot- I like how the girl looks, 'stuck in the middle' of the two other characters. I think this can represent a number of things such as how she is feeling, maybe under pressure or doesn't know what to do. This is also shown by the facial expressions used, as she looks quite shocked and surprised. I think if I chose to use a camera angle similar to this it would also show how the 'bride' feels stuck in the middle of her friends.
I dont like the big compass used at the top of the page- I think this looks to much and makes the page look to busy. With the title already including, 'Compass', and the girl in the middle holding a compass I dont think the big one is needed.
I do think the way the editors have used an image over the last 'E' in 'Empire' looks effective as it shows thet are confident people will recognise their magazine.
Lastly, I like the fact there isnt too much writing on the cover, so the main focus is actually the image. Although, I think less writing looks better on covers I do think there should be a hint or clue to what will happen in the film to entice to viewer.

Actress's

I am now going to talk about the actresses I have chosen to cast in my film trailer. When thinking about my cast I thought about what would appeal more to my target audience. Firstly, I thought a boy as theres normally atleast one boy which will attract the female target audience. Although this is very conventional I have chosen to use my three best friends. I thought using my three best girlfriends would be appropriate as it is a 'chick flick' and this will still get my target audience. I think as the cast will already know eachother there will be no tension within the trailer. I want my casts to be three very different individuals. For example, the good girl- Joe, the trouble maker-Lucy and the one thats stuck in the middle- Katy. I want to make sure my actresses look the part so the correct costumes are crucial. Also, I am going to create a script for each one of my cast so it can be learnt and then hopefully the trailer will look quite fluent and rehearsed. I will upload my first draft video as soon as I have filmed.

Analysing Film Magazine Covers

I am now going to research different magazine front covers to gather inspiration for creating my own. I will look on websites such as 'Empire', 'Total films' and 'Entertainment weekly' to find film magazines that could influence my own. I want my three final products to be recognisable and eye-catching. Also, I want to make sure my three products are matching, this can be done be using the same style font throughout my products and also the same colour scheme. I am not going to analyse a few film magazine covers that have inspired me in different ways.

1

This is a magazine front cover advertising 'Casino Royale'. The overall cover does not appeal to my target audience but there are certain aspects of the cover that have influenced me in my project. Firstly, the shadow used behind the main image looks really unique and effective. I like the colour scheme of the cover, I think it contrasts really well with the dark image then the bright colours on top. The title at the top of the cover is hidden which is conventional and shows the magazine company is confident that people will recognise their magazines. The main focus in the image has direct eye-contact with the audience, this then draws you into the magazine and straight away attracts the audience. Lastly, the way the editors have used the actors/actresses names on the front cover is a clever idea as it will attract their target audience and people who like a certain actor/actress will notice this and want to watch the film.

2

I am inspired by this front cover as I think the main image really draws you in. I like how the title, 'FILM' is printed over the main image as this looks conventional and professional. I think the font used really stands out and catches the audiences eye. The clothing that has been used really represents the character and shows he is quite quirky and maybe quite strange. Also, the body language and facial expressions show he is quite a serious and important character within the film. Overall, I think the whole front cover reflects the film within the colour schemes as there is quite dark colours used- this could show how there could be a quite dark side in the film. I like how the page has been presented within where everything is placed and I will take inspiration from this for my own DVD front cover.

3

My favourite feature on this cover is the actresses facial expressions. I think by the way the girls are looking shows a story of what is to happen in the film, maybe some drama or horror. Also, the props they are holding such as guns show there will be some conflict in the film. I like how the image films up a lot of the front cover as this then gives the audience a lot to look at. I also like the film strip at the bottom of the page, I think this looks really effective as it relates to what the magazine is about and still looks different. Lastly, I like the bright orange pug used on the cover as it really stands out. Overall, I am very inspired by this DVD front cover, but I do think there is a lot going on and the audience may not know were to look first.

Analysing DVD Covers

I am now going to research different DVD covers that are similar to my chosen genre, 'chick flick' and hopefully these will inspire me for my own cover. It is important that I research DVD covers so I can use conventions that make my cover look realistic and professional. On the other hand, I want to use unconventional features on my DVD cover so it looks a little different from past covers. I will now go onto analysing my favourite three DVD covers.

This is the DVD cover of, 'In Her Shoes', there are many things that would relate to my trailer on this cover. Firstly, the way the women in the back of the picture looks as if she is 'stuck in the middle' of a situation, this could relate to the bride in my film as she feels she is stuck in the middle of two of her best friends. Also, the facial expressions that are used show a story. The girl on the left looks annoyed and quite jealous of the girl on the right. Whereas, the girl on the right looks as if she is the centre of attention. Also, the way she is taking up most of the seat shows she is more powerful. The next thing I like about this DVD cover is the three slogans used, 'Friends, Rivals, Sisters'. I think this gives a hint to what the film could be about. Lastly, I like how even though the background is plan white the image used really makes the cover stand out and the dog with the shoe gives a little comedy onto the DVD cover.

I have chosen to use this DVD cover image as this film, 'Mean Girls', has inspired me for my trailer. My favourite feature on this cover is the way the pictures and images have been placed. The 'MEAN GIRLS' through the middle of the cover shows a divide through the people and this could represent there is conflict within the film. I think the DVD cover really stands out and I think the colour scheme works well. I also like how the main actress. Lindsey Lohan is made bigger on the cover as this then gives us a hint that it is going to be about herself. My main inspiration from this DVD cover is the way they have represented the characters on the cover with their facial expressions and body language. The way the three girls are standing show their confidence and that they may be trouble in the film and maybe not be very nice people.

This DVD cover is from the film.' 27Dresses', I have chosen to analyse this cover as I think it targets the same audience that I am, which is females, 14+. I think this cover targets its audience well due to the pink colour scheme. Also, the image used is a girl wearing a dress which will attract a girl audience. I like how the DVD cover is quite simple but the way its presented still catches your eye as its looks quite unconventional but there is still everything needed on the cover. My main inspiration from this cover would be the lay out and how the cover is quite simple but still effective and targets its audience.

'10 things I hate about you' analysis

I am now going to analyse the film, '10 things I hate about you'. (1999). Firstly, I like the fact there is boys and girls on the front cover of the film, I think this instantly targets the film at a unisex audience. I like how the 'chick flick' still has comedy within it and this is shown throughout the trailer, (I will take inspiration from this). Also, the music used in the trailer is quite upbeat so this makes the film look quite exciting and enticing. The trailer doesnt get boring as there is a good story line shown, which I think makes the audience want to watch more. I also think the actors/actresses that are used for the film was a good choice as they will attract different audiences, Heath Ledger, a well known American actor who is recognisable and I think females would be attracted by him and also Julia Stiles who is also a well known American actress.

Researching portfolios

This lesson I have been looking on past advanced portfolios for inspiration and ideas on where I want to go next with my film trailer and products. While researching past blogs I have found some good posters and magazine front covers that have given me a few ideas for my own. My next task is to start taking some images for my products so I will start this as soon as possible, this will hopefully lead to more ideas for my trailer and start showing some proper development on what I want my final products to look like.

Initial ideas on backing tracks

For my film trailer I think it is very important to have the right backing track as it will attract the audience. I want to have at least 2-3 different backing sounds, this is so the trailer is broken up within different scenes and also it will not get boring. I think the sounds will bring different feelings towards the trailer. I want my backing sounds to be recognisable and catchy so the audience will remember the trailer. My initial ideas for the sounds were quite girly songs to attract my target audience, but I decided to change this as I do want my target audience to be unisex, so I am going to research a range of different tracks that I think will be suitable for the film trailer and research for inspiration from other film trailers.

Mean Girls- Main Inspiration
While watching the 'Mean Girls' trailer I found there was around three recognisable songs used, one of the songs which was sang by 'Beyonce', so this straight away will attract the female target audience as she is a very popular female singer. There is also a song used in the 'Mean Girls' trailer that was very unisex which will then involve both sexes. I think when creating my trailer I will use a variety of backing tracks to attract my audience and also make sure the songs are targeted at a male and female audience.

These are some of my ideas:
-Cindy Lauper- Girls just wanna have fun.
This was my first idea for my backing, I thought of this song due to it being a very well known song and also very girly. Although, I think this song could work I think it is very common and maybe a predictable song to use for my trailer, also this song is more aimed at girls/women.

-The Dixie Cups- Were going to the chapel.
This song I think will bring a little more humour into the trailer. Also, I don't think this song is targeted at a particular audience, and involves both sexes. The words to this song also give the viewer a little more information of what the film is going to be about. I think this song is well known and it will get stuck in peoples heads. I also have ideas on what cuts I could have in this song to go with the scenes I'm thinking for my trailer.

-I'll Be There For You- The Rembrants
I think using a song like this will really represent what the film is about and that it is based around friendship. But then I also thought about how the song could be used with cuts to show how the day isn't running smoothly and not everybody is getting on. I will find another song that represents different emotions in the film and see if the two songs go well together.

Location Ideas

I have decided I want to do some more research on my ideal location for the setting of my film trailer. My initial idea was in a girly room which personally, I think will make the scene look more realistic. After watching the film, 'Bridesmaids' I got thinking about the location they had, which was in a bridesmaids shop. This has given me further inspiration for different settings that I could use, such as, a hairdressers or beauticians setting, I think using a setting like this could look really realistic, girly and appeal to my target audience.

Target Audience

As my film trailer genre is a 'chick flick', my target audience is aimed at girls/women aged 13+, I have chosen the age 13 as it is classed as the start of your teenage years and I think that this film is suitable for that age. On the other hand, I also think an older audience would enjoy watching the film as it will also consist of comedy. To attract my target audience I will use props that will appeal to a female audience such as girly accessories ect. I think my audience will instantly be interested in the film by the colour shceme and also the soundtrack I will use.

This lesson I have been thinking about what I should call my 'chick flick' I have been researching on the internet for inspiration but didnt have much look so I have five titles that I think could be successful for my film. Here I have created a tally chart and asked 12 people which title they thought would be more suitable and appealing for my film. This is the feedback I recieved.

1. A day to remember
///
2. Three's a crowd
/////
3.  Wedding Bells
 /
4. Maids of Horror
//
5. The wrong day
/

After creating my tally chart I have decided to go with the most voted for which is, 'Three's a crowd'. I think this represents the characters in the film and also gives a hint to the viewer what the film could be about and that there could be conflict and humour in the film. I also like that the title is a well known quote so I am hoping this will be recognisable to people and that it will be remembered. The title isnt to long and is quite simple.

'Bridemaids' inspiration

"The cast of Bridesmaids is predominantly female, but both sexes are going to love it."
Over the holidays I went to watch the new release of, 'Bridesmaids'. Although this film genre is classed as a comedy it was mainly aimed at girls/women. I think the film could also be classed as a 'chick flick', I was inspired by the film as it was very girly and at times there was a lot of conflict between two of the women actresses. When creating my trailer I want to show humour to atrract the audience. I will take inspiration from this film especially during the camera angles when conflict occurs and also facial expressions and body language. I will carry on watching 'chick flicks' and take inspiration from the films to use when creating my own film trailer.

Paramount

Paramount Pictures Corporation is an American film production and distribution company, located in Hollywood. Founded in 1912 and currently owned by media conglomerate Viacom, it is America's oldest existing film studio; it is also the last major film studio still headquartered in the Hollywood district of Los Angeles. Paramount is consistently ranked as one of the top-grossing movie studios. The film 'Mean Girls' which is one of my biggest inspirations for my film genre was distributed by paramount, so I am going to use this production and distribution company to release my film.

Newline Cinema

New Line Cinema, often simply referred to as New Line, is an American film studio. It was founded in 1967 by Robert Shaye and Michael Lynne as a film distributor, later becoming an independent film studio. It became a subsidiary of Time Warner in 1996 and was merged with larger sister studio Warner Bros. in 2008. I choose to research New line as 'The notebook' was distributed with this independent film studio in 2004.

Miramax Films

Here are some films that I have found that were produced and distributed by Miramax films. I have picked certain films out that are more similar to my genre, chick flicks and comedy. I think that I may use miramax films for the production and disribution of my film as they are a leading worldwide film and television studio with a library of more than 700 motion pictures.  Miramax sells directly and licenses its titles globally through strategic partnerships with Lionsgate, Studiocanal and most recently Netflix. Collectively, the Miramax library has received 284 Academy Award nominations and 68 Oscars, including four Best Picture Awards.

Shall We Dance (2004)
A romantic comedy where a bored, overworked Estate Lawyer, upon first sight of a beautiful instructor, signs up for ballroom dancing lessons.

Jersey Girl (2004)
After his career is sidelined from an unexpected tragedy and a personal blowup, a single man must take care of his precocious daughter.

Dirty Dancing: Havana Nights (2004)
In November 1958, the American teenager Katey Miller moves with her parents and her younger sister to Havana. Her father is an executive of Ford expatriated to Cuba, and Katey is an excellent high school senior student that misses her friends.

     Twin Sisters (2002)
Twin Sisters is an epic love story based on the Dutch bestseller by Tessa de Loo that has been read by more than 3.5 million readers in Holland and Germany.

Production

This lesson I have been researching different production companies and trying to find one that is suitable for my own trailer. Up to now 'Miramax' is one of my initial ideas as it specialises in a range of genres, I will carry on my research for my production company next lesson.

Analysing Inspiring Trailers

I am now going to research different 'chick flick' trailers for inspiration. I am going to use the website http://www.imdb.com/ to view the trailers. This will hopefully influence me for my own film trailer.

Mean Girls

The first trailer I am going to analyse is ‘Mean Girls’ which is an American film directed by Mark Waters in 2004. The film stars Lindsay Lohan, which is a well known American actress. I decided to analyze this film as it is a very well known ‘chick flick’ that has a lot of aspects of comedy. When thinking about a chick flick I always think of ‘Mean Girls’, ‘The Notebook’ ect. The film has inspired me in the way there is a lot of drama going on which brings comedy into the film. The trailer of the film is very enticing and full of laughter. This trailer is full of different camera shots and different scenes of the film which I think works well as the more of the film you watch the more you want to go and see the film. Each clip of different scenes didn’t drag or last to long, so I also think the timing of the trailer is good. Overall, I think the trailer is successful, Although, I do think there needs to be more sub titles on the trailer as there are only the producers and the name of the film. I think the way they have left the name of the film until the end of the trailer is conventional as people will watch the whole of the trailer to find out what the film is called.

The Notebook

The second trailer I have chose to analyze is ‘The Notebook’, I decided to do this as it is one of my favorite ‘chick flicks’. Even though this is a romantic ‘chick flick’ I am very inspired by the trailer. There are a lot of short clips used and different scenes in the film that get you really enticed in the film. I also like the fact there is a voice over through the trailer telling you things that are happening in the film, I think this is effective as it gives you a clue what to expect. Although, I think this trailer is really enticing and shows a lot of romance I want my trailer to consist of more comedy. I will take some aspects of the trailer to use in my own such as the camera shots and the timing between each scenes.

‘The Notebook’ Trailer:

A Cinderella Story

I think this trailer is successful in the way it has a lot of comedy that is consisted throughout the trailer but I do think that the film trailer should be a little longer as this trailer doesn't really show the audience what the film is about, I also think the trailer feels a bit rushed. On the other hand, I like the way they have a narrator talking about the film as this helps to find out what the film is about. Also, I like the music that is played at the end of the trailer as this is a typical 'chick flick' with romantic music. I like how the film comes across really girly and I think this will attract the target audeince well.
