Setting/Location

My initial thoughts for the setting of my trailer was a really girly room full of shoes, dresses, accessories and everything a girl could wish for! I thought of this setting due to it attracting my target audience, a female audience aged 13 and above. I think this setting also goes well within what is happening in the film trailer. The day of the wedding and all the 'bridesmaids' are getting ready etc. I think even though this location is rather simple that it will look more realistic. This is my initial idea and I am going to think more on where I think the ideal setting will be for my trailer.

Actresses & Actors For My Trailer

During my research I have began to think about what kind of actresses/actors I am looking for. My target audience is aimed at girls/women aged 13 years and upwards. I want my trailer to entice the audience and really appeal to a female audience. Therefore, I am having mostly actresses in the trailer, I have found my actresses and have ideas on what I want them to wear etc. As I am creating a 'Chick Flick' trailer I want to make sure my actresses look really beautiful and girly. I want to attract my target audience through my actresses as I think girls/women could be inspired by these actresses and maybe want to be like them. The ages of my actresses will be around the same age as my target audience, I have decided to do this as I think this will draw the viewers in and make them feel involved in the film trailer.

Initial Ideas For My Trailer

I have thought about what I want to do for my own trailer, my initial thoughts were that the film will be based on three bridesmaids that really do not get on, on the day of their friends wedding things really don't go to plan when everything that is meant to be perfect goes wrong! a day that is meant to be full of fun, laughs and happiness goes to a complete disaster. This is my initial thoughts so some things will be changed, I will do a mock run through of what I think will work and find out if this is successful or not. I want the trailer to be funny, girly and very entertaining.

Actresses that appear in 'Chick Flicks'

I am now going to research for famous 'chick flick' actresses that I can be inspired by, I will find out what films they appeared in and also find a little history about each actress to give me an idea of what I'm looking for in my own trailer.

Julia Roberts

Here I have found Julia Roberts which I think is a brilliant actress, Julia also plays the main part in one of my favourite 'chick flicks', Pretty Woman (1990). She has also appeared in enough other classics, including Steel Magnolias (1989), My Best Friend’s Wedding (1997) and Notting Hill (1999).

Renee Zellweger

Here is Renee Zellweger a chick flick leading men of recent years including Hugh Grant, Colin Firth, Ewan McGregor and Richard Gere. Another actress that plays a main role in one of my favourite films, Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001) and then tiny and svelte in Chicago (2002). Her other films in the chick flick category include White Oleander (2002), Down with Love (2003), Miss Potter (2006) and My One and Only (2006).

                                                  Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore is one of my favourite actresses.
Barrymore wrote the 1990 autobiography, Little Girl Lost. She successfully made the transition from child star to adult actress with a number of films including Poison Ivy, Bad Girls, Boys on the Side, and Everyone Says I Love You. Subsequently, she established herself in romantic comedies such as The Wedding Singer and Lucky You.

Sandra Bullock

American actress and producer who rose to fame in the 1990s, after roles in successful films such as Speed and While You Were Sleeping. She has since established her career with films such as Miss Congeniality, Two Weeks Notice, and Crash, the third of which received critical acclaim.

What is a 'Chick Flick'....

"Chick flick is a slang term for a film mainly dealing with love and romance designed to appeal to a female target audience. Although many types of films may be directed toward the female gender, "chick flick" is typically used only in reference to films that are heavy with emotion or contain themes that are relationship-based (although not necessarily romantic as many other themes may be present). This term is also applied to films with significant crossover appeal to other, more general audiences, such as Titanic (which was highest-grossing film of all time until 2009). Chick flicks often are released en masse around Valentine's Day."

Inspiration

Initially, when thinking about a 'chick flick' I instantly think of 'The Notebook' as it is a really sad typically 'girly' film and I think that the film is very well known. Although, this is one of my favourite films and is a real tear jerker I want to bring a little more comedy in my own trailer so it will attract the audience and make them laugh rather than cry.

Secondly, I thought about the film 'a Cinderella story' this film has inspired me in the way there is conflict between the three sisters and I think this brings comedy and laughter to the film, which will straight away attract the audience. I also want aspects of comedy and a lot of conflict in my own trailer.

I would say that this film- 'mean girls' is my biggest inspiration. When asking girls what they first thought of when saying 'chick flick' there was a high amount that said 'mean girls'. In this film, 'mean girls' there is a lot of conflict used and also comedy in the film, I also think that the film shows a quite reality school life. I will take inspiration from 'mean girls' trailers and try and use aspects in my own trailer.

My Initial Ideas

My initial ideas for my A2 product was to produce a film trailer. Firstly, I was interested in making a thriller trailer but after creating a mind map I found that I didn't have enough ideas. I then thought about  a 'chick flick' and decided that this could be a successful choose. I will need to create a trailer, DVD front cover and a front cover of a film magazine. I will now research different films and trailers that have inspired me and post them on my next blog.
